Oleg Chervonyuk, the owner of Rivne flax mill GOLDI, appealed to the President of Ukraine with a demand to introduce life imprisonment for corruption under martial law. The reason for the open letter was the company’s conflict with the State Transport Safety Service of Ukraine (Ukrtransbezpeka). According to the businessman, the officials resorted to pressure on the company after its production facilities suffered from Russian aggression.
As Chervonyuk reported on Facebook, the conflict began after the Russian missile attack on a garment factory in Volochysk in September 2025. During the removal of the wreckage of the destroyed building, the company’s car was stopped and fined for allegedly illegal transportation.
The resolution on the fine was issued by the head of the Rivne Department of Ukrtransbezpeka, Volodymyr Samofalov, and representatives of the flax plant were not invited to consider the case, which is a violation of procedure. Chervonyuk claims that the official’s actions have signs of corruption pressure and resemble the working methods of the old traffic police system.
In his address, the head of GOLDI called on Volodymyr Zelenskyi to initiate changes to the legislation to punish corrupt people as harshly as possible, since internal bribery undermines the state’s defense capability no less than an external enemy. In addition to the offer of life imprisonment, the company’s team asks to take the situation with the Rivne division of Ukrtransbezpeka under personal control. Corresponding statements about possible abuse of the official were also sent to the SBU and NABU.
President Zelensky instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to develop amendments to the Criminal Code, which will strengthen the criminal liability of officials for improper maintenance of shelters and closed access to them.
The profile committee of the Verkhovna Rada recommended adopting draft law No. 13452 in the first reading on punishment for refusing to obey commanders’ orders.
