The ministry noted that the preparatory work for the restoration of the Mykolaiv Church is ongoing, and the restorers are currently focused on the implementation of priority measures for the preservation of the cultural heritage site.
Thus, to prevent further destruction of the building, temporary equipment is installed, which will help maintain the optimal temperature regime inside the building. These actions are aimed at protecting the facades and interior spaces from external influences while the preparatory work for the continuation of the restoration continues.
In addition, the planned manufacture of new glass elements of the central stained-glass composition, which was destroyed during the shelling, after the completion of the report on losses and damages and the approval of the list of relevant actions for the repair of the complex of buildings.
As noted in the ICSC, the restoration will be carried out on the basis of authentic drawings and entries in the restoration passport of the object. In particular, the stained-glass windows will be made of modern materials that meet the challenges of today, which will maximally reveal the ideas of the authors of 1899–1909.
The ministry also emphasized that the restoration work carried out by the Soviet authorities during 1979-1981 with the reconstruction of the internal premises changed the purpose of the building, adapting it for concert activities. Accordingly, structural and decorative elements were replaced, and the glass of the central stained glass composition was replaced with a mediocre version.
