Deputy of the regional council Halyna Kuts reported that today, during the session of the regional council, deputies supported the change of the name of the theater by 88 votes.
“The renaming epic lasted for more than two years. Finally, the names of the Cossack family of Kvitok, who did a lot to shape the Ukrainian face of Kharkiv and Slobidchyna, are returning from oblivion,” she wrote.
The publication notes that until 2022 the theater bore the name of the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. After prolonged sabotage by the regional council, the name of the Russian was removed from the name of the theater. In the same year, the theater team voted to name it after Hryhoriy Kvitka-Osnovyanenko. They believe that the playwright made a great contribution to the development of Slobozhanshchyna, and not only in the theater field.
“His plays are shown in theaters all over Ukraine, but there is still no theater that bears his name,” theater director Oleg Yatsina told the “Lyuk” publication at the time.
Recently, during a round table discussion within the framework of the public discussion regarding the allocation of the Kharkiv Academic Drama Theater named after Hryhoriy Fedorovich Kvitka-Osnovyanenko, it was decided to support this proposal.
