The prosecutor’s office officially confirmed that Sergei Oliynyk, known in the criminal world as a “thief in law” nicknamed “UMKA”, has stable links in law enforcement, which significantly influenced his ability to avoid responsibility for many years.
According to the Judicial Register, UMKA appears in two criminal proceedings: for “establishing or spreading criminal influence in the status of a thief in law” and for “organization or participation in a criminal meeting”.
In May 2021, the Oliynyk was detained and placed in custody, but he spent only a month one and a half months there. His accomplice, the “thief in the law” by Lasha Jachvliani (“Lasha Swan”), was released almost a year later.
During the appeal, the prosecutor warned that in the case of release, the Oliynyk would be able to contact her unidentified ties in law enforcement agencies and influence the course of the investigation, avoiding criminal liability.
The case file also mentions that in 2005, Oliynyk served his sentence for the threat or violence against a law enforcement officer, but this information disappeared from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
On May 12, it became known that Oliynyk was taken to court under the escort. His detention occurred after he attracted the attention of the power structures, moving on a car with special signals without appropriate permits.
The SBU promptly dismantled illegal special specialized from the armored car “Umki”, which was equipped with them at the manufacturer.
