The use of fireworks is prohibited throughout Ukraine on New Year’s Eve. At the same time, citizens are allowed to use only firecrackers and sparklers, the police said.

The Deputy Head of the Communications Department of the National Police of Ukraine Viktoriya Ponomaryova reminded about this on TV, reports Ukrinform.

According to her, there are currently no exceptions to the ban on the use of fireworks in Ukraine.

“There are legal restrictions on the circulation and use of pyrotechnics in Ukraine. They were introduced for the safety of citizens and are mandatory throughout the territory of our country. The Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Use and Circulation of Pyrotechnic Products” prohibits the use of fireworks, fireworks, and firecrackers. The ban is permanent and has no territorial exceptions. At the same time, the use of sparklers or firecrackers is allowed,” Ponomaryova explained.

She said that those persons who do set off fireworks may be held administratively or criminally liable.

Violation of the rules for observing silence and protecting the public from the harmful effects of noise may result in liability under Article 182 of the Civil Code, which, in particular, provides for a warning or a fine of UAH 85 to 255 for citizens, and for officials and private individuals, liability may arise in the form of a fine of UAH 255 to 510.

In addition, the use of pyrotechnics can be classified as hooliganism – this is Article 296 of the Criminal Code, according to which punishment in the form of a fine from UAH 17,000 to UAH 34,000 is possible.

As Ponomaryova informed, in addition to setting off fireworks, among the most common violations recorded by law enforcement officers on New Year’s holidays are drinking alcohol in public places, appearing drunk, etc.

The deputy head of the National Police Communications Department reported that the NPU, like every year, carries out increased security and law and order patrols during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“The National Police, together with military personnel, conducts increased patrolling. There are increased patrols on highways, near places of worship, and in places where there is a mass presence of people. Our explosives units and other police services work around the clock,” she added.

Responding to the question whether the curfew is planned to be eased on New Year’s Eve, Ponomaryova said that “everything will be according to the usual schedule.”

“Safety rules remain unchanged – both on weekdays and on holidays, and New Year’s Eve is no exception,” said the deputy of the Department of Communication of the NPU.

She urged people not to ignore the air alert and to protect themselves.

We will remind that the Netherlands is preparing to ban fireworks from 2027.

Earlier, we wrote that in Odesa, law enforcement officers are checking information about the launch of fireworks during an air raid. The persons involved in this are identified there.

The Syhiv District Court of Lviv sentenced 37-year-old Lviv woman Natalia Rudi-Pysyk, who set off fireworks in Syhiv on New Year’s Eve.
