The death of the artist was informed by the People’s Deputy Mykola Knyazhitsky, noting that Shevchuk had gone into eternity after a long serious illness.

Its contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture is invaluable, and the memory of it will remain in the hearts of readers and colleagues.

Valery Shevchuk was born in 1939 in Zhytomyr. He graduated from the Faculty of History and Philosophical Faculty of Kyiv University, after which he worked as a journalist, a researcher, led a historical club “Chronicler” at the Union of Writers of Ukraine, as well as the author program on “Ukrainian Radio”.

During his life, Shevchuk became an honorary professor at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Ivan Franko Zhytomyr State University.

Valery Shevchuk entered the literature in 1962, when his works began to appear in the Motherland and Literary Newspaper.

His prose was distinguished by a deep psychology and unique style, which distinguished him from most Soviet writers who were forced to sing socialist ideals.

In the 1970s, Shevchuk got into the so-called “black list”, which led to a ten-year ban on printing his works.

Valery Shevchuk is the author of more than 150 fiction and scientific books. His works were translated into 22 languages ​​of the world, and several of them have been created films and theatrical productions both in Ukraine and abroad. Among the most famous books by the writer are the House on the Mountain, Three Leaves Outside the Window, Birds from the Invisible Island.

In 1988, he received the Shevchenko Prize for the novel-Triptych “Three Leaves Beyond” in 1988. Shevchuk also became a laureate of numerous literary awards, in particular the awards named after Mikhail Kotsyubynsky, Alexander Kopylenko, Yevgeny Malaniuk, Ivan Ogienko, Elena Pchilka.

In 1999, he was awarded the Order of Yaroslav the Wise Fifth degree.
