On May 1, the oldest inhabitant-nun Sister Olga Ladjun, who spent almost 90 years in a monastic life, went to the Mukachevo community at the age of 106.
This was reported by the Mukachevo City Council.
Olga’s future sister was born on June 10, 1919 in the village of Ruski Komarivtsi near Uzhgorod. Her childhood was not easy: after her father’s death in 1924, her mother, staying with two daughters, was forced to give them to the orphan sisters of Vasyliyanok in Uzhgorod, where the girls were raised in a religious spirit.
In 1936, Maria, having accepted the monastic name Olga, joined the monastery of Vasyliyanok in Uzhgorod, and later, after the first vows, she began her studies at the Teachers’ Seminary. After graduation, she worked in church schools, and in 1941 she entered the University of Seged (Hungary), where she studied at the Faculty of Biology.
On August 28, 1944, she made eternal vows in the Uzhgorod Monastery. However, after the establishment of Soviet power, all Greek Catholic monasteries were closed, and monastic life became possible only in the underground. Sister Olga was hiding, and later – despite all the difficulties – continued his service to God and people in a secret monastery in Mukachevo.
In the Soviet years, she worked as an accountant, and since 1950 for twenty years she taught biology in the village of Seredyna in Uzhgorod. Even during the persecution, she did not leave a monastic life.
Sister Olga spent the last years of her life in the monastery of the Blessed Family in Khust, remaining a spiritual authority for many generations.
