In September-October 2024, 27% of respondents stated that they use tobacco or nicotine products (daily or not daily). Compared to December 2023, the number of smokers has decreased by 30%, but the difference is very close to statistical error.

The use of tobacco or nicotine products is still significantly more common among men than among women. Among men, 39.5% of respondents use such, among women – 17% (in 2023, the indicators were, respectively, 42.5% and 20%, but the difference with the current year is within the statistical margin of error).
Among the current consumers of tobacco or nicotine products, the vast majority (69%) smoke industrial cigarettes, compared to 2023, the indicator has decreased (previously, 75% chose this option, for other products compared to 2023, the indicators have changed within the margin of error).
Tobacco products for electric heating are used by 23% of respondents, electronic cigarettes – 16%, hookahs – 8%, and tobacco – 4% of respondents. The fewest respondents reported on nicotine pads – 2%.
In addition, there was a tendency for younger and middle-aged respondents to use tobacco or nicotine products more (both among men and among women). Thus, among 18-59 year olds, almost 33% use such products, among 60-69 year olds – 20.5%, and among 70+ year olds – 11%.
The use of TWEN, electronic cigarettes and hookah is more common among young respondents. The most common use of such products among 18-29 year old respondents – 45% use tobacco products for electric heating, 44% – electronic cigarettes, 21% – hookahs.
94% of current cigarette smokers noticed a warning about the dangers of smoking on cigarette packs in the last month.
The survey was conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from September 25 to October 8, 2024 among 2,019 respondents. Under normal circumstances, the statistical sampling error (with a probability of 0.95 and a design effect of 1.1) does not exceed: 2.4% for rates close to 50%, 2.1% for rates close to 25 or 75%, 1.5% for rates close to 10 or 90%, 1.1% for rates close to 5 or 95%, 0.5% for rates close to 1 or 99%.
