Ukraine strongly denies accusations of alleged involvement in the supply of drones to rebels in Mali fighting the local junta and Wagnerian militants.
This is how the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the information disseminated by some international mass media.
“We also categorically deny all the accusations that periodically come from the mouths of high-ranking officials of the Republic of Mali and the Republic of Niger, that Ukraine is allegedly involved in “cooperation with terrorists”, “supplying terrorists with weapons and providing them with information”, “Ukraine’s support for a terrorist coalition”, etc. – emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The department recalled that in statements dated August 5 and 8, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine had already refuted such accusations and expressed regret over the decision of Mali and Niger to break diplomatic relations with Ukraine.
“In this context, we also reject all accusations against Ukraine regarding the alleged involvement of our state in the entry into the Sahel region of weapons and military equipment supplied to Ukraine by its allies to counter the ongoing armed aggression of the Russian Federation,” the ministry added.
The department also noted that for more than two and a half years of the Russian invasion, Western partners have not found a single case of misuse of the weapons and military equipment provided to Ukraine.
“Once again, we emphasize that Ukraine remains committed to the further development of mutually beneficial relations with all African states on the basis of equality, non-interference in internal affairs, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries within internationally recognized borders, strict adherence to international law, the goals and principles of the UN Charter”, – emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The agency urged “to stop the spread of false information that repeats the false propaganda narratives of the aggressor state of Russia, aimed at discrediting our state and justifying the unprovoked, unjustified and illegal war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.”
Before that, the French publication Le Monde reported that since the summer of this year, the Tuareg rebels from the CSP movement in the north of Mali have been actively using Ukrainian drones in the fight against the Malian junta and the “Wagner” PMC.
According to the publication, Kyiv provides “discreet but determined support.” Moreover, it is a matter of pride for the Tuareg, because they now have the ability to strike from the air, just like their enemies.
Previously, the pro-Russian regimes of Mali and Niger broke off diplomatic relations with Ukraine. In particular, the junta of Mali decided to break diplomatic relations with Ukraine for supporting the actions of the Tuareg rebels, who defeated a column of Malian military and Russian mercenaries of the “Wagner” PMC.
