The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to information about children from European Union countries spending time in the sanctioned children’s center “Artek” located in the temporarily occupied Russian Crimea. These trips are private and do not reflect the position of EU governments.

This was announced by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhi, writes the publication Suspilne.

At the same time, the agency reminded that entering the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine without passing through Ukrainian checkpoints is illegal.

“When sending their children to rest with the Russian occupiers, the citizens of EU countries should be aware that Russia will certainly make their sons and daughters tools of its state propaganda and justification of the war of aggression against Ukraine. This is exactly what happened recently at the Artek International Children’s Center,” said Tyhiy.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled the special status of the “Artek” children’s center, which formally operates under the auspices of UNESCO, but was illegally transferred to Russian control by the so-called “Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea” after the occupation of the peninsula in 2014.

Since then, Ukraine has not been able to guarantee the observance of human rights on its territory, the agency added.

Russia systematically destroys the cultural identity of Ukrainians in the occupied territories and violates the rights of children. This is manifested not only in cases of forced resettlement of minor Ukrainians, but also in the manipulation of children from Europe, who are used by the occupation authorities to strengthen their own propaganda, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on citizens of foreign countries to carefully assess the risks associated with their children’s trips to territories occupied by Russia.

In addition, the Ukrainian side emphasizes the systematicity of Russian policy, which includes violations of human rights and the creation of dangerous conditions for the life and health of children.

We will remind you that recently in the occupied Crimea, in the Artek children’s camp, children from Germany were found, despite the fact that Germany officially recognizes the peninsula as the territory of Ukraine.
