The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to the negotiations between the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, and the dictator of Russia, Vladimir Putin, stating that his weakness, dependence and short-sightedness in energy policy pose threats to the whole of Europe.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Russia uses energy as a weapon, and therefore the rejection of Russian energy carriers and increasing energy independence is currently an important trend for Europe. Ukraine expressed surprise at Fico’s attempts to maintain energy dependence on Moscow, which is contrary to EU policy and joint work of European countries on diversification of energy supply.
The ministry emphasized that the actions of the Slovak prime minister actually help Russia in its efforts to displace American and other gas from the European market, maintain Europe’s dependence and weaken the continent.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that Ukraine is ready to cooperate with the European Commission to solve problems, but Fico chose a different course. According to the department, Ukraine is paying the highest price for deterring Russian aggression and protecting European homes, including Slovakia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded that they will not accept the policy of appeasement, which has already proven its fallacy in the last century, and called on European partners to work on strengthening Europe’s energy security.
We will remind that the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, flew to Moscow. There he held talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
We previously wrote that the Slovak opposition party “Freedom and Solidarity” (SaS) condemned the meeting between Prime Minister Robert Fico and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, calling it a betrayal of the country and its allies.
