From September 1, 2025, they will not finance the school’s educational subsidy (except primary education institutions), with less than 45 students, and from September 1, 2026 – less than 60. Now local authorities have to decide whether to close Such school, whether to leave and finance it with its budget.
There is no information on the number of such establishments. The Ministry of Education says it will be after the statistical reporting as of the new 2025-2026 academic year.
It should be noted that this is not the first such decision, since September 1, 2016, schools do not finance schools with less than 25 students.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, on average, the state spends 30.4 thousand hryvnias a year from the village, and in the city – UAH 24.4 thousand. In some villages, the cost of teaching one student reaches more than 51 thousand hryvnias. This is due to the need to keep and pay for employees a large number of schools with few students.
The decision on the reorganization, elimination or re -profiling (change) of the educational institution is made by local councils. This means that local self -government bodies can decide: either to bring students of these schools to a closest school or to pay for the work of small school teachers from local budgets.
