The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is developing a program to modernize the infrastructure of the hospital system, in particular rehabilitation facilities.
The expected volume of financing is about UAH 8 billion.
According to Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, in 2026 the department plans to attract more than UAH 700 million from the state budget for the development of military hospitals. The funds will be used to complete current projects, prepare project documentation, and start new construction.
Separately, the participation of international partners is envisaged. The “Renovator” project, which covers five key medical institutions, is being implemented within the framework of NATO’s complex aid package. It is about updating the infrastructure, purchasing modern equipment and training medical personnel. So far, about 80 million euros out of the total need of 200 million euros have been attracted under this direction.
The Ministry of Defense is also counting on Canada’s support in the field of rehabilitation of servicemen. Denys Shmyhal discussed this issue with Khrysta Freeland, Canada’s representative for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The National Guard of Ukraine reported that it uses field hospitals that it previously received from the Netherlands.
