The Minister of Defense named the main priorities of the military strategy for 2025

During the 25th session of the meeting in the Rammstein format on January 9, Ukraine presented the military strategy for 2025. It is based on four key priorities. During the 25th session of the meeting in the Rammstein format on January 9, Ukraine presented the military strategy for 2025. It is based on four key priorities.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense Rustem Umyerov.

Umerov named the following priorities:

  • stabilization of the front line
  • strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities
  • strengthening the protection of the sky and sea lanes
  • an asymmetric response to the aggressor’s attempts to achieve superiority through scale.

The Minister of Defense stated that this was one of the most important meetings in the “Ramstein” format, which became another stage in the strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

During the meeting, the roadmaps for the development of the Ukrainian Defense Forces until 2027, developed within the framework of 8 Coalitions of Capabilities, were approved:

  • aviation
  • air defense
  • naval capabilities
  • artillery
  • armored vehicles
  • IT
  • drones
  • demining

“We have moved to a new level of cooperation: in addition to closing the immediate needs of the war, we will also work on building the long-term capabilities of our army,” the defense minister wrote.

Umerov said that new aid packages were announced during the meeting:

  • US: A new $500 million aid package that will include air defense missiles, air-to-air missiles and equipment for F-16 aircraft.
  • Canada: aid for 440 million Canadian dollars ($305 million), including 100 million for the purchase of Ukrainian weapons according to the Danish model.
  • Great Britain: together with NATO allies, will transfer 30,000 new drones worth 45 million pounds ($55 million) to Ukraine. Denmark, the Netherlands, Latvia and Sweden participate in the project.
  • Norway: NOK 700 million ($60 million) to purchase drones as part of a multinational initiative.
  • Germany: will transfer 6 IRIS-T air defense systems in 2025 and provide 50 interceptor missiles to these systems in the near future.
  • Iceland: will finance the production of Ukrainian weapons within the framework of the “Danish model” in the amount of 2 million euros.
  • During the three years of the full-scale war, the participants of “Ramstein” declared more than 145 billion dollars in security aid to Ukraine.

    On January 9, the 25th meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine took place at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The meeting was chaired by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. This is the last Rammstein meeting in which representatives of the Joe Biden administration participated, and Trump’s position on the continued participation of the United States in this format is currently unknown.

    During the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Rammstein format, agreements were reached on additional support packages worth 2 billion dollars.

    Allies within the framework of the Rammstein format have agreed on plans to support Ukraine. It is about the plans for the development of the defense capability of our country until 2027.
