“I am pleased to announce the official opening of a joint venture between KMW (KNDS Deutschland) and one of the Ukrainian defense enterprises,” said Smetanin.
According to him, the newly created company will specialize in the maintenance and repair of military equipment supplied by a German company to the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The first samples of this technology appeared in Ukraine as early as 2022.
“Ukrainian specialists have already been trained in Germany, the first systems have already been installed at the facilities,” said Smetanin.
Thus, now the equipment of the Defense Forces will be repaired faster. Also, the work of the joint venture “will significantly support the economy with investments and jobs.”
In July 2024, the German company Rheinmetall announced that it plans to open four military plants in Ukraine. The first plant intends to produce a batch of Lynx BMPs by the end of the year, initially ten vehicles will be delivered. The plant also provides maintenance services, providing support for both infantry and armored units.
Rheinmetall also plans to open a powder factory, a tank ammunition factory in Ukraine, as well as establish the production of anti-aircraft systems in Ukraine.
