On November 28, 2024, the 3rd National Tourism Summit will be held in Lviv, which will be attended by representatives of the UN World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) – Beka Jackeli, director of external relations, and Kordula Vollmuter, director of the organization’s European region.
According to the announcement of the State Tourism Development Agency of Ukraine (DART), representatives of UN Tourism will not only participate in panel discussions, but will also hold a working meeting with the heads of local authorities.
According to DART head Maryana Oleskiv, this summit is developing from the all-Ukrainian level to the international level, and the visit of UN Tourism representatives is an opportunity for Ukraine to gain support and work out mechanisms for the restoration of the tourism industry. The summit will discuss Ukraine’s integration into the European tourism space, focusing on issues of crisis management, adaptation to climate change, sustainable economic growth, preservation of cultural heritage and community support.
Beka Jackeli emphasized the importance of developing a concrete plan for the sustainable development of tourism in Ukraine in order to ensure its effective positioning on the world tourism map. At the previous 25th session of the UN Tourism General Assembly, Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili initiated the creation of a working group to support tourism and the economy of Ukraine, which will further strengthen efforts to restore the industry.
