According to the forecast of the International Monetary Fund, during the years 2026-2029, Ukraine will experience a total financing deficit of $136.5 billion under the new EFF program.
This was announced by Julia Kozak, director of the IMF’s Communications Department, during a press briefing in Washington on Thursday.
“In 2026-2027, the residual financing deficit is estimated at $63 billion,” Kozak clarified.
She noted that the IMF program should help Ukraine attract external support that will partially or fully cover the deficit. The Fund’s resources are intended to support the balance of payments and economic growth, not to repay debts.
Kozak also called on donors for operational assistance to cover Ukraine’s fiscal and external needs and avoid liquidity problems during the war.
Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reached a staff-level agreement on a new $8.2 billion lending program.
Earlier, the International Monetary Fund noted the significant progress of the State Customs Service of Ukraine in implementing reforms and offered to grant the customs office the status of a law enforcement agency.
The European Commission stated that the IMF’s approval of a new credit program for Ukraine is directly related to the approval of a financial assistance package from the European Union, which is still missing.
