The transition of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to the new calendar was very successful. But the reform is not over yet, and the question of Easter remains.

Sviatoslav, the head of the UHCC, said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

According to him, before the transition to the new calendar, 95% of the surveyed parishes “wanted reforms, even complained why it was so late.” As of now, of all the congregations of the UHCC in Ukraine, only one parish in the Kharkiv region has asked for a postponement, and all the rest have moved.

“You know, it was a feeling of unprecedented unanimity. When our people felt that the church leaders were their leaders, and we had the feeling that the people were following us,” he said.

At the same time, as Svyatoslav noted, the reforms are not over. “There is a question of Easter reform. Because we want to celebrate not only Christmas, let’s say, with the whole world, but also Easter. Easter is the main Christian holiday. Today, our church found itself in such a situation that we all celebrate Christmas together, but we celebrate Easter differently,” Svyatoslav said.

The head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church noted that there is a part of the church abroad that celebrates Easter with the Latin Church, and we in Ukraine, in accordance with the principle of seeking unity with our Orthodox brothers, have decided to continue celebrating with them.

We will remind you that on the evening of December 24, Ukrainians will celebrate Christmas Eve, or Christmas Eve, which ends the 40-day Christmas fast. This holiday has a special significance in church tradition and is celebrated in Ukraine with unique customs and traditions.

Earlier we wrote that this year the absolute majority of Ukrainians will celebrate both Christmas and New Year. This also applies to those respondents who have loved ones at the front.

We will also remind you that Pope Francis held a Sunday prayer on the eve of Christmas, during which he called for a ceasefire in all war zones. He condemned the brutal bombing of schools and hospitals in Ukraine and Gaza.
