Vyacheslav Zinchenko, accused in the case of the murder of the linguist and public figure Iryna Farion, spent almost 20 thousand hryvnias to carry out this crime.
Chief of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi, said this in an interview with “Ukrainian News”.
“He had a crypto wallet. This is not such a large amount of money, but we calculated that he spent about 20,000 hryvnias to carry out the murder,” he said.
Vyhivskyi informed that Zinchenko did not take anything at all, no valuables from the victim.
“No, nothing at all. I can say that he prepared well, was knowledgeable, read a lot of literature, understood the methods of conspiracy,” said the head of the NPU.
He noted that Zinchenko read FSB books, literature on how not to leave traces of a crime, he read manuals on how law enforcement officers work on detection and how to avoid prosecution.
“But time does not stand still, new technologies appear and we move in step with the times, new approaches. Our operatives, investigators and criminal analysts worked very well. We worked step by step. Operative services and criminal analysis gave this result. They calculated his manner of walking, found out the routes of movement and places of temporary residence. Technologies made it possible to track everything,” said Vyhivskyi.
According to him, the person involved was most likely preparing to commit this crime himself. At the same time, the National Police does not rule out that Russians may be involved in this.
The head of the NPU reminded that since 2022, Zinchenko joined a certain group in Telegram, which promotes the cult of violence and cruelty, and that in 2024, he became a member of another group in Telegram, which is connected to a racist and Nazi organization.
“Under the influence of the information that was published in those groups, he became convinced of national discrimination against citizens of Ukraine who speak the Russian language. Due to the fact that Farion was a linguist and constantly spoke out against the Russian language, this became his motive for the murder. There is some information that the special services of the Russian Federation are involved in this, because there were certain correspondences of the accused, but the motive is this,” said Vyhivskyi.
According to him, that is why Zinchenko’s actions were finally qualified under p. 8, 14 h. 2 Art. 115 of the Criminal Code (intentional killing of a person in connection with his performance of a public duty for reasons of national intolerance), and part 1 Art. 263 of the Criminal Code (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives). Vyhivskyi informed that the weapon was never found.
“But we completely tracked where he bought the weapons. If we take the evidence base, for the prosecutors and in my opinion, there is enough evidence of his guilt. They are fixed and fixed. After getting acquainted with the materials of the case, the mood of the lawyers and the accused himself changed a little. But the court has the last word,” said the head of the NPU.
It will be recalled that the linguist Iryna Farion was killed on July 19 last year near her home in Lviv.
The accused of committing the crime is 18-year-old Vyacheslav Zinchenko. He faces life imprisonment.
In early January, the court extended the preventive measure for Vyacheslav Zinchenko, a suspect in the murder of public figure Iryna Farion.
