After the end of the war, about 5-6 million veterans and their family members are expected in Ukraine.
This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko during a meeting with representatives of the Coalition of Veteran Public Organizations.
“Ukraine is the first country to build a comprehensive veterans’ policy during the war, not after its end. This requires decisions based on the real experience of our defenders and their families,” Svyridenko said.
The main goal is the integration of veteran policy into all areas of life: medicine, education, the labor market, and social services.
Many proposals from public organizations (in particular, “Veteran Hub”, “Principle”, “Legal Hundred” and “Space of Opportunities”) have already been taken into account in the final draft of the Code.
“Ukraine is the first country to build a comprehensive veterans’ policy during the war, not after its end,” Svyridenko emphasized.
Next steps and arrangements
The meeting participants agreed on specific actions to improve services for the military:
- Health care and work: The Ministry of Veterans Affairs together with NGOs will discuss proposals from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economy.
- Driver’s license: The issue of access of veterans with disabilities to exams after studying in barrier-free driving schools will be worked out separately with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a joint project of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the National Health Service on long-term medical care for veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Lviv City Council decided to provide veterans with a monthly allowance of 100 hours of free parking.
