The electricity produced by Solar Chernobyl is enough for the needs of about 2,000 apartments. The one megawatt solar station is a common Ukrainian-German project that costs about 1 million euros.
Electricity in the area appeared for the first time since 2000, when the Chernobyl was finally stopped.
“It is not just another solar power plant – it is the only one (the station – ed.), Which is 100 meters from the nuclear reactor that exploded in 1986. It is difficult to overestimate the symbolism of this project, ”-Evgeny Varangin, executive director of partner Solar Chernobyl LLC project, told reporters.
In the future, the companies plan to increase the capacity of their solar power plants in the Chernobyl exclusion zone from 1 to 100 megawatts. It should be noted that in March 2018, the government reported plans to turn the Chornobyl zone into an innovation platform and build renewable energy facilities there.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine showed the fragments of the Russian drone, which attacked the Chernobyl NPP on the night of February 14. The Russians attacked a nuclear object using Shahd drone.
After the strike of the Russian drone at the Chornobyl NPP, Ukraine consults with international partners. Damaged sarcophagus will be quickly recovered.
At the moment, the work on the extinguishing the fire at the Chernobyl NPP is temporarily suspended, but the situation is monitored with the help of unmanned apparatus. On February 17, new cells were found at the sarcophagus that need immediate response.
