On January 4, the religious community of the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God in Chernivtsi transferred from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The local pip did not want to bury Ukrainian soldiers.

Roman Hryshchuk, priest of the OCU, announced this.

“The land of Bukovinsk is confidently freed from the Moscow Patriarchate! The first community of the city of Chernivtsi left Moscow occupation! Religious community of the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God, Sadhora district. 299 – for! The decision was made unanimously!” – reads the post.

The priest said that the decision on the withdrawal of the church congregation from the jurisdiction of the UOC (Moscow Patriarchate) had been brewing for a long time.

“The community was quite strong and large. “Father” Michael remembered the Moscow patriarch as his master even after the invasion of the Rashists. He did not pray for Ukraine, did not want to bury the soldiers. Despite the fact that more than 25 soldiers from Sadgora, he did not come and did not want to bury a single one! The parishioners, led by the founders and builders of the church, decided to put an end to this situation and gathered for a meeting,” Roman Hryshchuk said.

According to the priest, more than 300 people attended the meeting about the transition of the religious community from the UOC MP to the OCU. Supporters of the Moscow Patriarchate did not vote for this decision.

It is noted that residents were not allowed to hold meetings in the cultural center, so voting took place on the street. Roman Hryshchuk notes that the same situation was with the voting in the villages of Vovchintsi and Vasylivtsi.

In 2024, there were 218 fewer religious communities in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate – they transferred to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

We will remind that 265 parliamentarians voted to ban the activities of the Moscow Church in Ukraine. There were 29 against, four abstained.
