The fate of the residents of the village of Grabovskoe in the Sumy Oblast, who were taken by the Russian military to the territory of the Russian Federation, became known. According to official information, it is about 52 civilians, among whom there are no children. Ukraine has already received data on their whereabouts and is negotiating their return. Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, told about this interview Radio Svoboda.

52 residents of the village were taken to Russia. Previous fears about the possible removal of children were not confirmed. Lubinets noted that the Ukrainian side received not only official lists, but also additional materials. “I was even sent photos, videos of communication with them – about whether they have any complaints regarding the provision of food, medicine, water, living conditions,” the ombudsman said.

According to the information provided, people are now in one of the frontline regions of the Russian Federation. Formally, they have the status of civilians, and, according to the Russian side, no restrictions are allegedly applied to them.

“We were officially told that there are no restrictions on them. I urgently appealed to Moskalkova to physically return them to the territory of Ukraine,” said Dmytro Lubinets. At the same time, he emphasized that the negotiations on the return of the residents of Grabovskogo are ongoing and remain difficult. According to him, the Russian side will probably try to put forward its own conditions.

“I am convinced that Russia will definitely put forward some conditions for the return of these people,” said the human rights commissioner.

The Ukrainian authorities emphasize that the removal of civilians from occupied or front-line territories is a violation of international humanitarian law, and the issue of the return of such people remains one of the most painful in the humanitarian dimension of the war.
