European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos is sure that Hungary will not disrupt Ukraine’s path to EU membership, this process is “inevitable”.
This is reported by AP.
“I’m not worried. I would be worried if there were real grounds for concern,” Kos said during a visit to a thermal power plant in western Ukraine.
The European Commissioner emphasized that she considers Ukraine’s membership in the EU “as a political guarantee of the country’s security,” since “there has never been a war on the territory of the European Union.”
Directly mentioning the Hungarian Prime Minister, she said: “We don’t need Orbán to carry out the reforms necessary for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.” Kos added that “the sooner the necessary reforms are implemented, the faster the process can move forward.”
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that after the war, Ukraine should return to the status of a “buffer state” between the West and Russia, as it was before the conflict began.
The Hungarian government has initiated new “national consultations” on raising taxes, while lying that such a move is a requirement of the European Union to finance Ukraine and the “war”.
