On September 20, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umyerov, opened the Defense Innovation Office of the European Union in Kyiv. This step became an important stage in the deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of defense technologies.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the main goal of the new office is to join forces to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities through joint projects in the field of IT and weapons production. Rustem Umyerov emphasized the importance of investments by European partners in Ukrainian defense production.

The minister also noted that the key goals of cooperation with the European Commission are the restoration of peace and stability in Europe, as well as the integration of Ukraine into the European Union.

Earlier we wrote that during the war in Ukraine, arms manufacturers in the Western Balkans are experiencing a real boom. Arms production in these countries has increased significantly, with Serbian arms exports quadrupling since 2020, including the supply of ammunition worth around €800 million since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

We will also remind you that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Kyiv on September 20, confirmed Ukraine’s support in ensuring a stable energy supply, despite Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.
