The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv extended until March 13 the preventive measure in the form of detention for former prisoner of war Maksym Bobylev. He is suspected of collaborating with Russia while in captivity and torturing his brothers.
Judge-speaker Maria Pylayeva informed Ukrinform about this.
“The preventive measure was continued – detention until March 13, 2026,” she said.
Bobylev is charged under part 2 of Art. 28, Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It is about the cruel treatment of prisoners of war, committed by a group of persons based on a previous conspiracy. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
Maxim Bobylev returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity during the exchange on July 17, 2024. Other former prisoners accused him of collaborating with the administration of the Russian colony where prisoners were kept and tortured.
Bobylev is suspected of four episodes and five victims who testified.
On July 18, 2024, the SBU registered criminal proceedings. Later, Bobylev was detained on suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war.
