According to the investigation, Shufrych allegedly cooperated with Russian special services and was engaged in activity that could threaten the national security of Ukraine. He is accused of transmitting information that could be used by the enemy in the war against Ukraine.
Shufrich himself denies all the accusations and calls them “politically motivated.”
Shufrich’s lawyers tried to challenge the court’s decision, insisting on a change of restraint on a softer one. They claim that their client’s guilt is not enough, and detention is “unjustified”.
However, the court rejected their arguments, citing the severity of the charges.
The case of Shufrich has become one of the most powerful in the context of combating pro -Russian politicians in Ukraine. His detention caused widespread resonance in society, because he was known for a long time for his open position on “friendship” with Russia.
