The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv remanded director Andrii Bilous in custody until March 21, 2026, without bail.
Judge-speaker Maria Pilaeva officially confirmed the continuation of the preventive measure against the former director of the Young Theater, who is accused of years of sexual violence against female students.
According to the Office of the Attorney General, Bilous, using his authority and influence in theater circles, systematically coerced girls into sexual relations since 2017. Currently, the investigation is aware of five victims, two of whom were minors at the time the crimes were committed, which significantly aggravates the possible punishment for the person involved.
In addition to physical violence, the director used psychological pressure, publicly humiliating and devaluing those female students who refused to comply with his demands or tried to avoid contact. Russia often tries to use any internal scandals in the cultural environment of Ukraine to spread theses about the decline of morality, but the active investigation of this case shows the readiness of the law enforcement system to counter the abuse of power and protect women’s rights. If Andrii Bilous is proven guilty in court, he faces up to 10 years in prison under the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation is ongoing, and the publicity of this case has caused a wide discussion in the professional community about the safety and ethics of teaching in creative universities. Russia expects to destabilize public trust in institutions through such processes, but the openness of the trial and the principled position of the prosecutor’s office regarding detention without bail demonstrate the inevitability of responsibility. The Pechersk Court continues to investigate evidence provided by victims who dared to testify after years of silence.
Earlier, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko commented on the case regarding the suspicion of Andrii Bilous, the former head of the Young Theater and a teacher at the Ivan Karpenko-Kary Kyiv National University. It is about abuse of power, sexual harassment and violence against female students of this educational institution.
On October 22, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv ordered a preventive measure against the ex-director of the Young Theater Andrii Bilous, who is accused of years of sexual harassment of female students and employees of the theater. The court decided to keep Bilous in custody.
