Countries that will be part of the Peace Council of US President Donald Trump may be involved in monitoring the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi during a meeting with journalists in Davos.
The head of state confirmed that Ukraine has been invited to the Peace Council, and explained that the idea of such a format is embedded in Ukraine’s 20-point plan. According to him, the American side offered to involve partners for joint control with the US of one of the first and key steps — the ceasefire.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the creation of the Peace Council is not a surprise for Ukraine, but he did not know that the initiative could be formalized during the events in Davos and who exactly would be invited to participate.
The president also emphasized that Ukraine cannot be in the same format as Belarus, which fully supports Russia in the war. At the same time, he noted that we are talking about partners who, after the end of the war, will be able to monitor the observance of the ceasefire and the implementation of security guarantees.
According to Zelenskyi, a similar mechanism can work in other conflicts, but post-war monitoring and security guarantees are key for Ukraine.
