In the card of the draft law “Draft of the Law on Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service” regarding the reduction of the maximum age for military service and conscripts in the reserve, as well as maintaining access to military service for citizens who have expressed a desire to undergo service after reaching the maximum age for military service” it is indicated that the initiators of the draft law were a group of people’s deputies, which included, in particular, Oleksiy Goncharenko, Volodymyr Ariev and Yulia Tymoshenko.
“I propose to reduce the age limit for military service and in the reserve from 60 to 55 years. I have already submitted the corresponding bill No. 12222 to the Verkhovna Rada,” Goncharenko said on Facebook.
This is necessary because “the majority of men aged 55-60 have a worse state of health, are often recognized as having limited fitness and are physically unable to perform all combat tasks,” explained the People’s Deputy.
In addition, military personnel serving from 2022, especially those who have been injured or are 50+, will need to be rotated or demobilized.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that there are no plans to lower the mobilization age in the country.
And recently, the Cabinet of Ministers published a new procedure for reservations from mobilization. According to it, the deferrals issued by the Ministry of Economy and through Diya will expire on February 28, 2025.
