The Council Derusified the names of more than 180 settlements

The Verkhovna Rada supported two resolutions on the renaming of settlements, the names of which contain the symbolism of Russian imperial policy or do not meet the standards of the state language. Legislative initiative No. 11363 was supported by 257 MPs, and the Project of Resolution No. 13259 – 258. The Verkhovna Rada supported Two resolutions about renaming settlements, the names of which contain the symbolism of Russian imperial policy or do not meet the standards of the state language.

Legislative initiative №11363 257 MPs supported, and the projected resolution №13259 – 258.

The decree “On the renaming of individual settlements, the names of which contain the symbolism of Russian imperial policy or do not meet the standards of the state language” renamed 165 separate settlements: Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Kirovograd, Luhansk, Nikolae, Khliv, Odesa. Cherkasy, Chernihiv regions.

In particular, the city of Sorokin, Dovzhansky district of Luhansk region, was renamed to the city of Sorochyna. The names of 18 settlements and 146 villages were also changed.

The resolution “On the renaming of individual settlements” renamed 19 settlements (3 settlements and 16 villages) of Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Transcarpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Odessa, Ternopil, Kharkiv and Khmelnytsky regions.

Earlier, the Council officially renamed the city of Vladimir-Volynskyi to Vladimir. The corresponding decision was made at a parliamentary meeting.

We also wrote that the Kharkiv Academic Drama Theater was officially renamed in honor of Grigory Kvitka-Osnovyanenko.
