The Verkhovna Rada recognized deported Ukrainians as and In 1944-1951 were Forcibly relocated nen From Poland.

This became known from the Card of Bill No. 2038.

The bill was entered in the Verkhovna Rada back in September 2019 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the massive displacement of Ukrainians living in the territory of the historical regions of Lemkivshchyna, Nadsyan, Podlasie, Kholmshchyna, Lyubashiv and Western Boykivshchyna.

This bill proposes to expand the concept of “deportation” to forced people of Ukrainian descent in 1944-1951 from their places of permanent residence in the territory of the Polish People’s Republic on the basis of decisions made by the Soviet Union and Poland.

In addition, the bill proposes to provide for such people with annual one -time financial assistance, as well as to extend the benefits provided for the participants of the war, and to members of the deported families – such benefits, which are provided for members of the families of war participants.

In 1944-1951, Ukrainians suffered mass deportations, which were conducted by Soviet and Polish authorities. The USSR thus sought to overcome the Ukrainian national movement and strengthen its power in new territories, that is, in the west of Ukraine.

At the same time, the Polish authorities also pursued this purpose and tried to assimilate the Ukrainian population among the Poles. The peak of deportations occurred in 1947: in April-July this year, the Polish Operation Vistula lasted, during which more than 140,000 Ukrainians were forcibly moved.

We will remind, the mention of the Minister of Foreign Affairs by the culling of the Operation “Vistula” Called Scandal among Polish politicians.
