According to Noda, if technology is improved and continuous efforts are made, significant progress in demining can be achieved in a few years. However, demining using traditional methods can take hundreds of years.

Currently, the UN development program, together with technical partners and national authorities, is studying the use of UAVs, service dogs and other innovative technologies for humanitarian demining, Noda said.

On April 5, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko stated that due to the full-scale invasion of Russia, as of now, approximately 25% of the territory of Ukraine is contaminated with mines and explosive objects.

Earlier it was reported that 30% of the country’s territories were mined in Ukraine as a result of Russia’s invasion, in terms of area this corresponds to two territories of Austria.
