The CEC Chairman explained if the presidential election is possible in the fall

Theoretically, elections in Ukraine this year are possible, including October 26, but this requires the end of the war and abolition of martial law. No special preparation for the CEC elections is now being conducted.

This was stated by the chairman of the Central Election Commission Oleg Didenko in an interview with Radio Liberty.

“Is the election in Ukraine theoretically possible on October 26? Theoretically possible. But what do you need? This requires peace in Ukraine to end the martial law in Ukraine, and then there is enough time to change the legislation and proper preparation of the electoral process, ”he explained.

In the current conditions, such a scenario is unlikely, Didenko says. He also denied that the Central Election Commission was already preparing for the election.

“If we talk about whether we have specific actions aimed at preparing for the elections on October 26 this year, then definitely not. As of now, we have neither actual nor legal grounds to talk about elections. As of now, the martial law is ongoing. During martial law, elections are not organized, not held, ”the CEC chairman added.

Didenko commented on the previous statements of the fifth President Petro Poroshenko that the printing plant “Ukraine” was tasked with calculating the cost of printing ballots for the polls. The CEC chairman claims that this is not a preparation for the election, as this happens regularly within budget planning.

The chairman of the commission added that the CEC operates working groups to prepare for the post -war elections. They consider different ways of simplifying voting in these elections, including “changing the form of ballot”. Appeals could be related to clarifying the cost of such changes.

In addition, Didenko says, there were appeals as to whether the Ukraine printing plant could produce ballots using Braille to make them more accessible to people with visual impairments.

He also explained the restoration of the work of the State Voter Register, which was closed after the start of a full -scale invasion.

Didenko noted that the work of the Register was stopped so that the data on voters and employees of the CEC “did not fall into the hands of the enemy, first of all, through the departments of the register, which were in those territories that were occupied very quickly.” This was also done for cybersecurity reasons.

When the Central Election Commission made a decision to restore the Register in the part of the data renewal, the work on entering this information in the Register went.

“Therefore, to say that the Central Election Commission is working on the relevance of the voter register, and this means that the elections will be, it is wrong,” – summed up the head of the CEC.

Earlier, FOX News reported that Russia and the United States have developed a plan for the termination of war, which provides for the presidential election in Ukraine and then signing a peace agreement.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to talk about elections in Ukraine. But, according to him, the Ukrainians themselves do not want it.
