The Verkhovna Rada Committee approved a bill that would give the National Guard the right to use weapons, tear gas and drones against civilians during “mass riots”. Parliament plans to consider the document by the second reading next week.

The new law greatly extends the powers of the National Guard of Ukraine (NSU). In particular, it gives the NSU virtually unlimited rights for the use of firearms, tear gas, electric stuners, drones and other means of influence, in particular the civilian population during protest actions, said in the department.
The declared purpose of the bill is to give NSU more rights and tools due to the fact that the National Guard is involved in the protection of the state during a full -scale invasion.
The Verkhovna Rada has already adopted the bill in the first reading, but then the law enforcement committee of the Parliament added a number of amendments to the editorial board.
The new version of the Law No. 10311 allows the National Guard:
- use firearms, in particular to stop mass unrest, without proper warning of protesters;
- use rubber and plastic sticks, tear gas, as well as electric stuners against participants of riots;
- marking violators during mass riots, such as paint;
- To use drones, but why – people’s deputies indicate very generalized. Are likely to be used to observe protesters
It is noted that the people’s deputies approved the bill in a regime closed from society.
