French financier Duri Lui-Michel, who had worked for BNP Paribas for many years, won a court case against President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky on the abolition of sanctions imposed against him on February 19, 2023.
The Supreme Court of first instance acknowledged that at the time of imposing sanctions, Dur Lui-Michel had not held any position in the Russian “Cotle Bank” for several years, since on October 13, 2020 he was officially released.
The court adopted the proof from the framework agreement signed between Suberbank of Russia and BNP Paribas, BNP Paribas Personal Finance, Cofica Bail and Leval 20.
The National Bank of Ukraine objected to the abolition of sanctions, but the court made a decision in favor of the plaintiff. This is the first time the Ukrainian court found the imposition of personal sanctions illegal and canceled them against the individual.
