The Biathlon Federation of Ukraine accidentally published a map of Europe without Crimea during the publication of the results of the World Cup. FBU President Ivan Krulko explained that this was a mistake due to the limited staff of the press service and the automatic settings of the Canva editor, “Champion” reports.
During the publication of the results of the men’s sprint race at the stage of the World Cup in Hochfilzen, a map of Europe without Crimea appeared on social networks. The image was published on the pages of the FBU on Instagram, Facebook and Telegram.
As the president of the Federation, Ivan Krulko, explained, it was a simple technical error. “They explained to me that this is the Canva editor, which automatically pulls the graphics depending on the location. We have a small office, one person performs 150 tasks. This is a mega-unpleasant situation,” Krulko noted.
Initially, the Federation planned not to delete the publication, but to add a comment with an explanation and apology: “I admit this mistake, I do not renounce it. Now I have given the command not to remove it, but to add it separately, that we have made such a mistake.’
However, the publication was later deleted, and the FBU officially apologized: “This is our mistake, we recognize it and guarantee a more careful attitude to graphic elements. We are removing the graphics and apologize to everyone for this shameful failure. Crimea is Ukraine!”
The press service of the Federation added that they had contacted Canva support so that the error would be corrected in the service and not be repeated in the future.
It should be noted that the pages of the Federal Bureau of Investigation are managed by the press secretary Anastasia Husareva, who until 2022 worked on the pro-Russian TV channels NewsOne and NASH. However, the FBU president emphasized that this was a technical error, not a political gesture, and emphasized the limited staff of the press service.
