DTEK General Director Maksym Timchenko called the attack on a bus with employees one of the darkest days in the company’s history during all the war years.
He said this in an interview with Bloomberg.
The tragedy occurred on Sunday, February 1, when the Russian occupiers purposefully attacked with two drones a transport transporting miners home after their shift. According to Timchenko, this was the largest simultaneous loss of the company’s personnel, which is another evidence of the terrorist methods of the Russian Federation against the civilian population and energy workers.
The head of the company emphasized that since October last year, not a single day has passed without shelling of the energy infrastructure from the Russian side. The enemy is systematically hitting power grids, transformer substations, generation facilities and coal mines, trying to completely paralyze the energy system of Ukraine. Timchenko emphasized that such actions are a deliberate destruction of human lives and demonstrate the true face of Russia, which is fighting against peaceful people on the energy front.
Despite constant danger and losses among the team, energy workers continue to perform their work to provide the country with light and heat in extremely difficult winter conditions. DTEK is working to strengthen security measures for its employees, but targeted drone attacks on civilian transport remain a serious challenge. This case will become part of the evidence base of Russian war crimes aimed at the destruction of critical infrastructure and its employees.
As a result of the attack, according to updated information, 16 people were killed and another 16 were injured. In the region, February 2 was announced as the Day of Mourning, emphasizing the scale of the tragedy for local communities.
We will remind you that the attack on a bus with miners in the Dnipropetrovsk region was carried out by “Shahedy” with online control.
Also, Dnipropetrovsk announced a day of mourning due to the attack on the bus with DTEK miners.
