Prime Minister Yuliya Svyridenko noted that the new social program “UZ-3000” will allow Ukrainians to travel up to 3,000 km by rail free of charge. It will be possible to use the program on certain days when there are free seats on long-distance trains.

About this Svyridenko reported in Telegram.

“The state began to co-finance passenger transportation, since the real cost of tickets is 3-4 times higher than the price paid by the passenger. Earlier, this difference was compensated by profits from freight transportation, but due to hostilities, their volumes have decreased significantly,” Svyridenko said.

The program allows Ukrainians to travel up to 3,000 km free of charge on days when there are free seats on long-distance trains. According to the government, in periods of low demand, up to 200,000-250,000 tickets are not purchased.

“To support the railway in a difficult period, the government allocates funds to cover part of the deficit. This is taxpayers’ money, so it is logical that citizens should also benefit from it,” the Prime Minister stressed.

She emphasized that the initiative does not create an additional burden on the state budget, as “Ukrzaliznytsia” will implement its own compensation mechanisms, in particular, flexible pricing in the premium segment, following the example of airlines.

“This is not just a social initiative. This is a tool for unloading the railway in peak periods, rational use of resources and increasing the efficiency of state support,” Svyridenko concluded.

Earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia launched a series of additional regional trains to and from Vorokhta in October to ensure passengers the opportunity to comfortably reach the Carpathians in autumn without using a car.
