Exports of sunflower oil from Ukraine have significantly decreased in recent years against the background of Russian attacks on energy and logistics.
Oleksandr Zakharchuk, head of the department of investment and material and technical support of the Institute of Agrarian Economy, reported this, UNIAN reports.
If in 2020 the country shipped 6.1 million tons abroad, then in 2025 the figure dropped to 3.5 million tons.
According to him, the fall was a consequence of war risks, damage to production facilities and complicated transportation.
The export dynamics were uneven throughout the war years. In 2021, the volume of shipments was 4.6 million tons, and already in 2022 it fell to 3.3 million tons.
After partial recovery, exports increased to 5.6 and 5.8 million tons in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
However, in the 10 months to 2025, it fell again to 3.5 million tons, underscoring the fragility of the recovery even with demand in global markets.
At the same time, the end of 2025 gave an unexpectedly strong boost to agricultural exports. In December, Ukraine exported 513,000 tons of vegetable oils of all types — almost a record monthly result, according to experts.
The main share was formed by sunflower oil (82%), while soybean and rapeseed oil provided 10% and 8%, respectively. Compared to December of the previous year, the total export of oils increased by 21.6%.
We will remind you that the UN named the products that have become the most expensive in the world over the past year.
Also, the oil slick in the Black Sea reached 55 kilometers of the coast.
