Special Operations Forces and Airborne Assault Troops have released videos of captured North Korean soldiers.
In the commentary of the SSO, it is reported that a North Korean soldier was taken prisoner in Kurshchyna and after evacuation from the battlefield, he was given first aid. In the published video, you can see how the evacuation took place.
The Defense Ministry noted that a North Korean soldier captured in Russia’s Kursk region was captured during the first combat mission and had Russian-made equipment and weapons. He was wounded, and he was given timely medical assistance.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that the defense forces captured two North Korean soldiers in Kurshchyna.
He called it a difficult task, because usually the Russians and North Koreans “finish off their wounded and do everything so that there is no evidence of participation” of the DPRK in the war against Ukraine. According to the president, the prisoners are provided with the necessary medical assistance.
Zelenskyi also said that he instructed the SBU to provide journalists with access to these prisoners.
The SBU reported that the prisoners were taken to Kyiv, where they are being held in proper conditions. The military from North Korea do not speak Ukrainian, English or Russian, so they communicate with them through translators in cooperation with South Korean intelligence.
One of the prisoners had with him a Russian military card in the name of a resident of Tuva, the other was without documents. The soldiers, aged 19 and 25, were told that they were going to Russia allegedly for training, and not for the war against Ukraine. Before that, one of them served in the North Korean army, apparently as a rifleman since 2021, the other served as a reconnaissance sniper since 2016.
According to them, the units of the DPRK underwent coordination with Russian groups in the fall of 2024, it lasted one week.
At the end of December, the Defense Forces managed to capture one soldier from the DPRK in the Kursk region, but he died soon after of wounds received at the front, South Korean intelligence reported on December 27.

On December 16, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that units of the North Korean army fighting as part of the Russian army in the Kursk region lost at least 30 soldiers killed and wounded between December 14 and 15.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Russian military is trying to burn the faces of dead North Korean soldiers who participated in battles against Ukrainian troops in order to hide their losses.
On January 9, at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, the president announced that the loss of soldiers from North Korea had already reached 4,000.
