The Norwegian government has expanded the list of regions of Ukraine that are considered safe, which affects the possibility of obtaining collective protection for residents of these regions.
From January 13, 2025, applications from people living in recognized safe areas will be considered individually. The criteria for such protection are much stricter than for collective protection. At the same time, it will be taken into account whether the Ukrainian authorities are able to provide the necessary protection.
The changes apply to those who applied for protection after September 28, 2024 but did not receive a response by January 13, 2025, and those who apply after that date.
We previously wrote that the US Department of Homeland Security extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for refugees from Ukraine for 18 months due to the ongoing armed conflict and emergency conditions in Ukraine.
