Ukraine’s Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, during which they discussed energy assistance needed by Ukraine following Russia’s large-scale attacks on energy infrastructure.

Shmyhal informed his American colleague about the latest strikes on Ukraine’s energy facilities and emphasized that companies, utilities and emergency services are working around the clock to restore supplies.

“Our priorities remain restoration, strengthening of stability and modernization of the energy industry. We discussed the possibility of supplying American LNG through the Vertical Gas Corridor, which would provide gas for Ukraine and European consumers. This opens up new prospects for business even in wartime,” Shmyhal noted.

The minister also outlined the urgent needs for the repair of energy facilities and proposed to direct part of the international aid to the purchase of critically needed equipment. Cooperation takes place within the framework of the SPARC initiative aimed at strengthening the sustainability of the energy sector.

In addition, Shmyhal emphasized Ukraine’s interest in deepening strategic cooperation with the United States in the nuclear industry and cooperation with American companies to increase the safety of Ukrainian nuclear energy.

Kyiv region received the first aid package from Poland – 35 generators of various capacities and 18 oil heaters. This is the first stage of a large support program, which should ensure the stable operation of critical infrastructure in the region.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the financing of the first stage of the new state program “SvitloDim”, aimed at providing multi-apartment buildings with autonomous energy sources.
