The Ministry of Justice, on the proposal of Prime Minister Denis Shmigal, submitted an actor Alexander Zavalsky for this position.
Alexander Zavalsky is a well -known Ukrainian actor of theater, cinema and dubbing, as well as director and teacher. He holds the post of Associate Professor of the Department of Stage Language at the Ivan Karpenko-Kary National University of Theater, Cinema and Television.
In 2018, Zavalsky received the title “Honored Artist of Ukraine”.
According to the source, it was Denis Shmigal who proposed Zavalsky’s candidacy, and the official submission was made by the Ministry of Justice.
At the same time, the Minister of Justice and the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stephanyshyn with Zavalsky is not personally familiar.
The position of the State Language Commissioner was established in 2019 in accordance with the Law “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as State”. The first language ombudsmenka was the Doctor of Philology Tatiana Monakhova, who in April 2020 resigned.
After her, this post was occupied by the politician and public figure Taras Kremin.
Taras Kremin has recently announced the start of checks for the use of Ukrainian in schools. He stressed that “Ukrainian should be heard not only in lessons, but also at breaks, parental meetings, in the library, gym and even in a bomb shelter. It should be everywhere! ”.
