The current offer of post-war security guarantees for Ukraine by the US provides for a period of validity of 15 years.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this in an interview with Axios.
According to the head of state, the documents regarding security guarantees for Ukraine are generally ready, but there are still some “technical points” that require additional discussion.
One of these issues is the validity period of the agreement. Volodymyr Zelenskyi reported that the American side offered a 15-year pact of guarantees with the possibility of further extension.
“I think we need more than 15 years,” the president stressed, adding that he would consider it “a big success” if Donald Trump agreed to it during their meeting.
Zelenskyi also noted that both the United States and Ukraine plan to submit the document on security guarantees to their legislative bodies for ratification.
Ukraine’s European allies plan to finally agree on security guarantees after the ceasefire in January. It is not only about political commitments, but also about specific support mechanisms, including the possible deployment of foreign troops on the territory of Ukraine.
On Friday, December 26, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
