The Russian military is ramping up its presence in southern Ukraine by deploying marine units for offensive operations, with plans to introduce new forces as early as April.
According to a spokesperson, the 40th Separate Brigade of the Pacific Fleet’s Marine Corps has recently been moved to the Huliaipole direction. This unit has already attempted to attack Ukrainian positions but has not achieved success.
“It has previously participated in assaults near the settlements of Varvarivka and Pryliuky. They tried to attack our positions, but it was unsuccessful,” the spokesperson noted.
The spokesperson also confirmed that two additional marine brigades are being transferred to the southern front. These Russian marine divisions are currently stationed in various locations.
Before being deployed to the front lines, the units will undergo recovery and combat coordination. The spokesperson stated, “They will be sent to the temporarily occupied Donetsk region for recovery, replenishment of losses, and will likely be involved in offensive operations in our southern regions starting in April.”
Potential areas of increased enemy activity include:
- Huliaipole direction;
- Oleksandrivka direction;
- Orikhiv direction.
“It’s difficult to specify where and how they will act; that’s part of the Russian General Staff’s planning,” the spokesperson added.
Moreover, the situation in the Huliaipole direction remains tense, with up to 30 combat engagements reported daily. The occupiers are particularly active around the settlements of Zaliznychne, Myrne, and Charivne.
