President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Western partners are temporarily “detaining” missiles intended for Ukrainian air defense systems. The head of state announced this while answering journalists’ questions.
He cited the intimidation of European countries by Russian drones and the possible need to protect their own territories as the reason. Because of this, Ukraine has not yet received the full amount of necessary weapons. “Partners have started to withhold air defense missiles a little, and we still cannot get the full volumes we need,” he said.
Zelensky emphasized that such a development was predictable: “In principle, it was predicted that Russia would attack, intimidate Europe with its drones, etc. (…) I have a feeling that one of the reasons is not only to check the air defense of the Europeans, but to keep the air defense missiles for themselves before winter.”
According to the president, Russian drones act as a psychological factor that forces Western countries to allocate their resources more carefully. Thus, part of the weapons remains on the territory of the partners to protect their own air defense systems, which temporarily slows down the supply to Ukraine.
