Russia Launches Coordinated Missile and Drone Assault on Ukraine

In the early hours of March 14, Russian forces executed a significant attack on Ukraine, deploying dozens of missiles and approximately 430 drones. Ukrainian air defense units successfully intercepted a majority of the incoming threats.

Military reports indicate that from 6:00 PM on March 13 until the morning of March 14, the adversary carried out a combined strike targeting critical infrastructure across Ukraine. This operation involved the use of drones, as well as land- and sea-based missiles.

According to the Air Force’s radio-technical units, a total of 498 aerial attack devices were detected:

  • 2 anti-ship missiles of the “Zircon” type (launch area – temporarily occupied Crimea);
  • 13 ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M/S-400 types (launch areas – Bryansk region, Russia);
  • 25 cruise missiles of the “Kalibr” type (launch area – Black and Caspian Sea waters);
  • 24 cruise missiles of the X-101 type (launch area – Vologda region, Russia);
  • 4 guided air-to-surface missiles of the X-59/69 types (launch area – Kursk region, temporarily occupied Donetsk region);
  • 430 strike drones, including types Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and others, launched from various locations including Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Shatalovo, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Gvardeyske, Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea, with around 250 identified as “Shaheds.”

The primary focus of the assault was the Kyiv region.

Ukrainian air defense forces, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups, engaged in the defense against the aerial assault.

As of 9:00 AM, preliminary reports indicated that air defense systems had intercepted or neutralized 460 targets, comprising 58 missiles and 402 drones of various types:

  • 1 anti-ship missile of the “Zircon” type;
  • 7 ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M/S-400 types;
  • 25 cruise missiles of the “Kalibr” type;
  • 24 cruise missiles of the X-101 type;
  • 1 guided air-to-surface missile of the X-59/69 type;
  • 402 enemy drones of various types.

Additionally, impacts from 6 missiles and 28 strike drones were recorded at 11 locations, with debris from intercepted drones falling at 7 sites.

Information regarding four enemy missiles is still being verified.

The Air Force warned, “The attack is ongoing, and several enemy drones remain in the airspace. Please adhere to safety protocols!”

It is important to note that this assault follows a series of powerful explosions reported in Kyiv and other regions, including Sumy and Zaporizhzhia, with casualties reported in Kyiv Oblast.
