US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the US delegation is ready to discuss recent events on Ukraine during the G7 ministerial meeting, which will take place this week in Canada.
Rubio emphasized the importance of cooperation between the US and Canada in solving global security issues.
Answering questions about the possible discussion of Donald Trump’s initiative to join Canada to the US as a 51st state, Rubio categorically denied that this issue would be on the agenda.
“We have many things we work together,” the Secretary of State said, emphasizing that there are much more important issues for discussion.
He focused on the joint protection of North America through Norad and the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis as on priority areas of cooperation.
Italy Foreign Minister Antonio Tayana also spoke about the future meeting, saying that ceasefire in Ukraine and the restoration of US military assistance will be a priority for discussion.
He emphasized the importance of recent negotiations in Jedda, calling them a significant step towards establishing a fair and long peace for Ukraine.
“We want Russia’s aggression against Ukraine as soon as possible: we, Europeans, united with the Americans, can achieve this,” Tayana stressed.
The meeting of foreign ministers of the Seven Group will take place from March 12 to March 14 in the town of Charlevua, located in the province of Quebec. The participants of the meeting are expected to focus on developing a common strategy for Ukraine support and counteracting Russian aggression.
Analysts note that the US position on Ukraine remains a key factor in international warring efforts.
The United States also urge Russia to consider the termination of hostilities in Ukraine and await a response from Moscow. The statement was made by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Recall that the United States will bring a proposal to Russia by several channels to cease fire for 30 days, which was approved in negotiations in Saudi Arabia between Ukrainian and American delegations.
