US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended a statement that explained why the United States proposed their own project of the UN General Assembly resolution on the third anniversary of the Russian War against Ukraine.
The relevant statement is posted on the State Department’s website.
“President (Donald) Trump seeks to end the Russian-Ukrainian war and achieve settlement that will lead to a long peace, not just a temporary pause. The United States proposed a simple, historical resolution at the UN, which we urge all member states to support to pave the way to peace, ”Rubio said.
According to him, “this war is too delayed and is horribly expensive for Ukraine and Russia.”
This resolution is consistent with Trump’s opinion that the UN should return to its fundamental purpose enshrined in the UN Charter – to maintain international peace and security, including through peaceful settlement of disputes, he said.
“If the UN is indeed committed to its primary purpose, we must admit that, despite possible challenges, the purpose of prolonged peace remains achievable,” the Secretary of State said. “Supporting the resolution, we confirm that this conflict is terrible, that the UN can help to stop it and that peace is possible.”
In his opinion, now is the moment when it is necessary to take on an end to the war.
“This is our opportunity to give a real impulse to peace,” Rubio said. “We urge all UN member states to join the United States in this serious desire.”
It should be reminded that the UN General Assembly on Monday, February 24 will consider at least two projects of resolutions to the third anniversary of the Russian War against Ukraine – from a group of most democratic countries, including Ukraine and the American version.
Earlier it was reported that Washington refuses to co -authored the UN resolution, which confirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemns aggression from Russia.
